Sentinel Data Centers announced a plan to expand its already massive New Jersey data center in a project to add 200,000 square feet and 20 megawatts of power capacity.

This will be a third phase of expansion at the NJ-1 site in Somerset, whose current 230,000-square-foot building is nearly full. The wholesale data center provider already signed lease contracts for some space in the upcoming third phase.

New Jersey is one of the biggest and most active data center markets in the U.S. Manhattan’s high real estate and energy prices have created a bustling market across the Hudson.

Internap, a retail data center services provider, made an announcement today that was very similar to Sentinel’s although much smaller in scale. Internap said it had expanded its Secaucus, New Jersey, data center with a new phase because its existing space in the facility was approaching capacity.

Sentinel plans to bring the latest Somerset phase online in the second half of 2015.

The company promotes the flexibility of its wholesale data center products as a differentiator. It builds out in modular building blocks with custom power density and resiliency levels for each customer suite.
